Where The Marina Began
In 1955, the corner lot at the end of Riverside Drive, where the lagoons channel meets the Huron River, was purchased by Morten and Violet Solberg. This was the mooring place for Mort’s 32′ Chris Craft and was supposed to be the location of Vi’s new dream house. Instead of a house, though, Mort dreamed of building a marina. By the late 1950s, the couple had sold their lot on the corner, and Mort sold his interest in Merit Foundry Co in Cleveland in order to purchase property where Mud Brook and the Huron River meet. This was the beginning of Huron Lagoons Marina.

Construction began in October 1960. By September of 1962, five slips were completed with the capability to dock 250 pleasure boats. At this time, the vision was to build 13 slips to accommodate 1,500 yachts.
The marina’s repair shop was constructed during the 1970s, followed by an additional 88 dock slips, two winter storage buildings, and a new office building that housed the marine store and Viking’s Den restaurant in the 1980s. A show room was added soon after, as well as an addition to the repair shop. During the mid-2000s, the marina gained its pool complex and rack storage to make guests’ stays simpler.
Then, in February of 2014, the Solberg family acquired Holiday Harbor Marina, Huron Lagoons’ sister facility—and ever since, the entire staff has continued the legacy of creating some of the most enjoyable times of our guests’ lives.
Where We Are Today
For 63 years HLM has been family owned and operated. Today both facilities are guided by third and fourth generations of Violet & Morten Solberg.
Both HHM & HLM are Ohio Gold Clean Marinas, full service facilities with inside and outside winter storage, that provide kayak rack storage, drive on docks for jet skis & jet boats and floating and fixed docks ranging from 20’ up to 40’, capable of holding up to a 46’ boat.
