The corner lot at the end of Riverside Drive, where the lagoons channel meets the Huron River, was purchased in 1955 by Morten and Violet Solberg.(Morten from Oslo Norway and Violet a native Ohioan)
This was the mooring place for Mort's 32' Chris Craft and was supposed to be the location of Vi's new dream house. But instead of a dream home, Mort had a dream for building a marina. By the late fifties they had sold their lot on the corner and Mort sold his interest in the Merit foundry business in Cleveland to purchase the property south of the bridges on the south west side, where Mud Brook and the Huron River meet. This was the beginning of Huron Lagoons Marina.
Construction began October 1960. By September of 1962 five slips were completed with the capability to dock 250 pleasure boats.
The vision was thirteen slips when completed to accommodate 1,500 yachts.
